Clinics and Training Vs. Select Travel teams

Road Hawks Lacrosse clinics and training has been the corner stone of our club and most importantly our player’s success on the field.  Our training starts with the early stages of learning or reinforcing the lacrosse basics to the advancement of becoming a student of the game.

There are many facets to the Road Hawks player development.  From basic youth age clinics from 5 to 8th grade leading into the advanced student of the game series and high level lacrosse training for select elite teams who travel to tournaments for the purpose of college exposure.

Player development continues at each stage of the Road Hawks but is truly separate from select travel teams.  Clinics and training is offered to all CNY Lacrosse players through Road Hawk Sponsored Coach’s clinics, and leagues.

Clinics and leagues are open to all players who are looking to advance their lacrosse skills and participate in organized clinics and training.

Select Travel teams from grades 7-11 is a separate training level and the beginning of the series developed by the Road Hawks named the Student of the game.  The Student of the games training series has been the development of mostly Road Hawk players who have continued on to play and coach at the collegiate level.

The Student of the game series was developed over the past 11 years though the experience of the most talented and committed players that have come through the Road Hawks program, continued with great collegiate careers and some going onto collegiate coaching careers.

What passions, characteristic, and commitment did all the Road Hawk select players have in common that has created the Student of the game training series now used for all select travel team players?

1.       Heart, Heart, and more Heart.   2. Love of the game   3. Passion for athletic competition.   4, Personal self commitment to becoming the best they can be as a lacrosse player.  5.  Determination and motivation 6. Creativity and pushing the limits of one’s skill level.  7. The deep, deep self character to never surrender to a higher challenge of competition.  8. Compassion for other team players and the characteristic to make everyone around them a better player through team work and leadership.

Finally it’s what we call and named; “ The Gamer” it’s that hidden passion, self strength, determination, and competitive characteristic that can’t be taught. It is evident in the best athletes that the one Characteristic regardless of natural athletic abilities surfaces and is the driving force that separates select top lacrosse players from the rest of athletic lacrosse participants.

It’s through the Student of the game series coupled with the proper mentoring that our coaches strive to bring the Gamer out in all of our select team players.

Open lacrosse clinics and training are offered through many of our coaches and even parents of players who join in with the clinics in reinforcing basic concepts and skill sets of lacrosse coupled with field and team experience. These clinics are offered throughout the year and usually in 4 to 6 session intervals.  The clinics are open to all lacrosse players.

Student of the game series is specific to the select Travel team players and begins as early as 7th grade thru senior year in high school.  This is the highest level of training that has developed thru real player experience and events that has now being used with all our select team players.  Within the student of the game series come direct small group and individual training.
